About PPF

There are MANY things that make A big difference in the quality of your Installation. Here are a few of the more important:

Paint Protection Film Material

Paint Protection Film is a durable polyurethane film, twice as thick as vinyl, designed to make the rocks bounce instead of chip your paint. Most of the rocks that impact your vehicle will simply bounce off with no visible marring of the film. On rare occasions a large enough or sharp enough rock can take a nick out of the film and on even more rare occasions it can get throught the film into the paint. How well did the film do in protecting a car we purchased with film on it for 8 years and 80,000 miles? When we removed the film we saw only one rock got through the film into the paint about the size of a pinhead! Pretty impressive, right?

Most companies making PPF, or clear bra, have high quality films available with 5-10 year warranties like 3M, Xpel, Stek, Suntek, Llumar and many more. Capital PPF has worked with all of them and has chosen  Suntek Ultra to be our film of choice with a 10 year warranty against yellowing, peeling and cracking.

Pre-cut Kits

Some companies only use computer cut patterns. Capital PPF is not limited to only using these pre-cut kits as we also specialize in custom installations. Sometimes these pre-cut kits are not designed well so we can make adjustments to the pattern for the best protection. We also may choose to custom fit the film to YOUR vehicle so that the best fit can be guaranteed. We can demonstrate when and why we would use a pre-cut pattern or a custom installation. At Capital PPF we “wrap the edges” whenever possible. This means the film is cut oversize and rolled over the edges so that it is more invisible and protects all the way around the leading edge of the hood and other areas. See pictures below.

Distortions and Contamination

If not handled with care and experience you can have some very noticeable distortions in the PPF. On cars with compound curves, some stretching and working of the film is necessary in getting it to adhere to multi-curved surfaces, but distortions should still be kept to a minimum. Also understand that the darker the car’s paint color, the more noticeable any distortions will be. Precautions to avoid contamination should also be given utmost importance. This is another case where over 20 years experience gives your installation its best chance to look great!

Experience Matters

No matter where you live there are many shops that offer PPF and in the greater Raleigh area the number has easily tripled at least in the last 2 years. They may also offer many other services and have many employees. At Capital PPF, Norm Schilling, the Owner, is the only installer. This means you will never have someone learning how to install PPF on your vehicle. Norm has been installing PPF since the industry’s beginning and before pre-cut patterns existed. His years of experience & attention to detail give you comfort in knowing you are getting a Top Quality installation.

Before Your Appointment
  • We focus on installing the paint protection film itself so it’s best to bring the car in nice and clean and ready for installation! We do necessary cleaning on the areas being protected before installing the film but we are not a detail shop. If you need any paint correction done we can bring in a detailing expert to get your paint corrected here on site before the film installation.
  • Please do not wax OR ceramic coat your car between now and the appointment. You can wax or ceramic coat over the film but doing so prior to installation makes it more difficult (or impossible) for the film to properly adhere to the paint. IF your car already has ceramic coating applied please let us know so we can take the necessary steps to prep the surface.
  • Please examine the areas to be protected for any existing rock chips or issues with the paint. If there are a few chips that need touched up please bring matching touch up paint so I can fill them in before installing film.
  • If your car has been recently repainted please let us know and note that it is recommended to let the paint cure for 15-30 days prior to installing paint protection film.
  • Try to avoid highway driving, tailgating & aggressive driving between now and your appointment to avoid collecting chips in your paint. The film will not hide any existing damage. This is especially important on dark color vehicles.
